Following an industry-standard workflow, users typically begin (only when needed) with very fine paper, then step through 1.0 µm → 0.3 µm → 0.05 µm alumina, rinsing well and using separate pads at every stage to avoid cross-contamination. This approach is widely recommended to maintain planarity and achieve mirror-like finishes on glassy carbon, platinum and gold electrodes, supporting consistent electron-transfer kinetics and low background currents.
